AWS Re:Invent 2020, Week Three
5 minute read |AWS, AWS re:Invent, Cloud
Week three of three (!) for AWS re:Invent 2020 kicks off and this post will be my “live blog” for the week. Check back often for reactions, news, and tips on how to get the most out of the week.
Just like the last couple of weeks (week one, week two), the latest entries will be at the top and unlike the conference, the times here are listed in eastern. Scroll to the bottom, if you want to start from the start of the week.
Remember, I have a separate post with just my take on the latest announcements.
13:25 Re-watching “Getting started with AWS identity services”, SEC206, by Becky Weiss, Sr. Principal Engineer at AWS
My tweet 🧵:
there’s enough time before the @QuinnyPig / @jeffbarr livestream at 3pm pacific to sneak in another couple of sessions— Mark Nunnikhoven (@marknca) December 18, 2020
I’m currently watching, “Getting started with AWS identity services”, by Becky Weiss, https://t.co/Hv2nsKiGcD#reinvent
13:15 AWS re:Invent 2020 is officially over. What a lot of people don’t realize is that there is a second part to this conference! Wednesday, 13-January-2021 to Friday, 15-Jan-2021 there will be another release of all new sessions!
17:00 Probably the last talk of the day for me, “Adrian Cockcroft’s architecture trends and topics for 2021”. Always enlightening, this one is sure to be great.
My twitter 🧵…
15:45 “Deep dive into AWS Lambda security: Function isolation”. A 400 level on serverless security and I am excited!
13:15 After lunch I watched, Amazon Location Service: Enable apps with location features. This session introduced the new Amazon Location Service which was announced in the leadership session from Bill Vass, “Speed up innovation with cloud management and governance”.
Lots of tweets about this one. Follow the 🧵:
12:00 Just before lunch, “Deep dive on Amazon Timestream”. A/k/a DAT310. Tweet-🧵 follows:
10:15 Next up, “Data protection at scale using Amazon Macie”. My tweets:

11:31 I was note impressed by that session. I get the business desire and angle for the partnership with Grafana Labs but the talk wasn’t well structured. It blurred the line between the core AWS offering and the Enterprise upgrade available from Grafana via the AWS Marketplace. That’s the exact opposite of what you want to do in a service announcement. Clarity is key
11:00 Watching, EMB048, “Introducing Amazon Managed Service for Grafana”. 🧵:
10:15 Having already attending more live sessions at AWS re:Invent 2020 than in the past five combined, I’m checking out AIM205, “Using Amazon Transcribe to make content searchable and accessible.” Tweet-🧵:
09:30 Next up for me is EMB049, Introducing Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP). My tweet-🧵 follows:

08:45 Watching EMB044, AWS CloudShell: The fastest way to get started with AWS CLI. 🧵 on Twitter…
11:00 My favourite keynote every year, Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon
09:11 Don’t forget about the charity efforts at the show this year. They are available on the platform under “Give Back”
heading into week 3 of @awscloud #reinvent, please remember the Give Back efforts (https://t.co/hBtLSao0Ko)— Mark Nunnikhoven (@marknca) December 14, 2020

08:00 Nothing official on the docket today. Week one and week two sessions are available on-demand. This is a great day to catch-up with the past couple of weeks and get ready for a fantastic third week to wrap this all up
