AWS re:Invent is absolutely massive. The only way to keep things somewhat organized is to use a reserved seating system for sessions. That system opened today and I live streamed the ins and outs of booking seats for various events.
Reasonably Accurate 馃馃 Transcript
We are going to get going and just a second here but a minute and a half before we go live for reinvent open seating. There we go. That鈥檚 how my day鈥檚 been going like always we had a Canadian Thanksgiving fantastic time just disconnected. But of course ridiculous of me, and that鈥檚 ridiculous me had the nerve to fire up macOS Catalina on my system.
Guess what then go smoothly upgrade to Catalina. So I鈥檓 seeing some things that are challenging and all that kind of stuff. But it seems like in fact for double streaming here. We are streaming to LinkedIn Periscope on Twitter. I have both open I think both are working at give me a second here to see if I can get this course.
I can鈥檛 move Twitter. So I have both open. Both are working. Give me a second. Sears at double-a, I don鈥檛 have that app installed either right now. Normally, I have a Sound Source installed and which would let me actually mute Twitter. Let me see if I can do that questions minutes before I live or reinvent.
I miss is the the idea of being able to install your eyes are not installed at set up your Oh and there were still going so we had this ability to preset that we had the ability to preset. Give me a second one more time here Twitter. There we go.
Okay. Thank you for bearing with me so I can see the comments on Twitter comments in Periscope. I can see LinkedIn have if you have questions we go through this let me know Chris has the absolute 100% thing. Correct? One year behind in Mac OS a because you鈥檙e still getting security updates the way to go as opposed to living on the Edge and Lita this time I waited for the ga this morning.
So I鈥檓 seeing all this stuff going which is great. So if you have questions fire on periscope Twitter if I don鈥檛 get back to you right away ping me on one of those again and I will try to Indy degraded into the stream is that these new permissions are absolutely fantastic, but they鈥檙e also killing me every time you want to do something at ask for permissions now, I鈥檓 extremely granular.
Nice to know I was just telling me it won鈥檛 be able to do anything until I passed that off. So here we go. Can we get let me get back on track. I am sorry. I am discombobulated this re-emphasizes the smarter strategy of waiting and not upgrading your OS we have been doing these dreams pretty constantly over the last few weeks.
You can go to the pager drop the Lincoln Lincoln Channel ready to talk about what鈥檚 going on with the series 2 lamp 2 on Serverless to stuff like that right reserved seating used ability to book in two different sessions at reinvent. The majority of the sessions are handled by reserved seating, which means if you don鈥檛 have a lockdown seat, you鈥檙e going to be waiting in line.
I think it鈥檚 ten or fifteen percent of pretty sure it鈥檚 10% of section space is reserved for walk-ups. The problem with that is that you鈥檙e in line to wait to get that walk up so I can be kind of challenging you really want to make sure you lock down a seat, which is why we鈥檙e on the stream live tonight number of things that were published on the 8th of you are going to see under the main menu here.
You will see the AWS gyro guys. This is a set of guides written by myself in a number of other Heroes 2 walkthrough sessions that we think are going to really be fantastic Community. He did this Advanced serverless guide. I love that Margaret did the introvert鈥檚 guide. It鈥檚 fantastic.
Put on so we click on Eric鈥檚 Advance Services guide you here a bit about Eric himself, essentially all you need to know he鈥檚 a butt you scroll down and you start to see what he鈥檚 recommending. Right? So he鈥檚 talking about your framing this pretty straightforward about he talked about early on in serverless and how its Advanced overtime and it鈥檚 and it鈥檚 it鈥檚 evolved and then he鈥檚 giving you these things like, okay.
Let鈥檚 check out the compute leadership session is fantastic sessions. But if you want an advanced education and serverless, these are the ones you really should line up with and if she鈥檚 got a great intro video that explains who she is her expertise experience, and then she goes down. So if you鈥檙e a newbie, here鈥檚 a great way to get started start with deep racer, but then how to be success successful become a machine-learning developer to help you guys make sense of the craziness.
That is the AWS reinvent session catalog. I need to do better at this but I鈥檒l show you the video back when my tech actually worked as opposed to what鈥檚 happening today since last year鈥檚 was like here鈥檚 what you should do Monday Tuesday Wednesday. What I did this time was set up and said here鈥檚 what I want to do.
So if you want to hear is a bunch of topics, Embassy building blocks of a bunch of topics right and so on and so forth and I think that helps you understand the goals of security server Heroes broken their guy down in a different way, whatever makes the most sense for them in the way they see their space but these are fantastic ways to get a handle on what鈥檚 going on.
I鈥檓 just checking the background for different, Once again, hit me up on LinkedIn if you eat dinner Twitter Periscope, I if you have any comments as we鈥檙e going I think the LinkedIn stream is still going you never know with this stuff. It鈥檚 always dicey, but I am recording this behind the scenes at least.
I hope it looks like my LinkedIn is actually Frozen. We鈥檒l see if it鈥檚 still going to double-check. Through this but with the gyro guys, we have this all set and that鈥檚 a recommendation but they took it a step further switched over to the 80s reinvent session catalog. You have to log into flag sessions are the book them.
Now. Unfortunately, it鈥檚 really hard to build a calendar out until 6 minutes from now when reserved seating opens up been recommending what you see me is sessions of Interest. So you have all the breakdown of the initial codes here. There are at least the prefix codes or a suffix codes as well Dash are as a repeated session.
I鈥檓 so that section is offered multiple times has a leadership sessions of a sort of the Seminole use the flag in the ground is where we are is where we鈥檙e going and then jackasses sponsored sections are sponsored by at 8 p.m. Partners. I鈥檓 actually giving to sponsored sessions on behalf of Trend Micro, but those are Dash ass and it鈥檚 also in description of the last Procession to make sure you want to go to that we can see we have some activities under the category.
I am not going to eat wings because that is not a good idea for me because I鈥檒l get a little competitive and I鈥檓 really trying to watch my diet so I can get rid of the extra chicken arts and crafts. I totally want to do the movie night actually some flag of that.
Red ball dodgeball all this great stuff, right? So ideal you鈥檝e gone through the catalog already in flag things that you鈥檙e interested in super cool heroes who did guides are filters. We鈥檙e filters in the catalog. So if I want to see what Eileen did I can just click on Eileen and it鈥檚 going to filter everything out for what Eileen did now I don鈥檛 think we鈥檙e guide is live right now, which is unfortunate.
But if we scroll down to me, I鈥檓 a filter and then you get all the sessions that I flag that I thought were cool. There鈥檚 two in here that I do not get in on time for the guy because they were added later in the day that I think it鈥檚 worth calling out in the three minutes before we So I got to clear my filter.
So that鈥檚 the one thing while you鈥檙e doing this to make sure you if you do a new sir. So I search for SEC 212 responsible disclosure with AWS security looks fantastic. The session on its own is great. The fact that Twitter is one of the speakers someone鈥檚 going to regret that decision.
It鈥檚 not going to be the audience. This is going to be an epic talk make sure to track that down. The best speakers on security is giving a toxic to 316 Bridget Johnson Senior manager do to be outside speaker access attribute-based access control is super amazing. Is it the Fantastic security topic I wanted to add this into the guy wasn鈥檛 able to push it in because of the deadlines cuz we鈥檙e trying to get this stuff up and running so we鈥檝e got three 2 minutes and I鈥檓 hoping I鈥檓 going to keep reloading my LinkedIn stream in the background is LinkedIn doesn鈥檛 want to see if you need them.
So please hit me up on the comments for their let me see if that works. I did unpause God go through in the background. So yeah, if you were on LinkedIn give me the comments. If you鈥檙e here on Periscope hit me up in the comments. Are you just meet me at Mark and see a happy to answer anything as we go? We have two minutes basically before this loads up and we鈥檙e allowed to actually book sessions.
So there鈥檚 a first-come-first-serve basis. There鈥檚 a few things you need to be aware of that. I can cover actually already watch the how to reinvent episode on reserved seating and Jill did a great job of covering what the restrictions are and why they鈥檙e they are all cover them again in the last 2 minutes before this goes live that is too close to another session in another building travel time is locked into the calendar.
So no matter how fast you think you can get from a building has determined the minimum travel times and they鈥檝e been forced them in the catalog is they don鈥檛 want you rushing around for your own sake for a bunch of these different sections. So you will not be able to come up with a warning and say hey you can鈥檛 make the conflict.
If you are if you have sent a another book seat or are on a waiting list for something in a conflicting time slot. You will not be able to do that book something for 9 a.m. On Monday and be on the waiting list for 9 a.m. Monday or onto waiting list at the same time.
You have one shit basically to put down in each of those time slots. So that鈥檚 really important to remember we got about 30 seconds here before this goes like all these sessions that you were interested in is because there鈥檚 this interests button or section on the side. This is going to allow you to book this easier.
So it looks like it鈥檚 live right now should already have a seat in this one. I am the speaker. I鈥檓 going to say I don鈥檛 need the book that I but this one I believe is yeah, this is Tim session Timbre fantastic on my mind and I鈥檓 going to reserve a seat there.
So that鈥檚 it. I reserve the seats or seating is live right now. Get in there do what I鈥檓 doing go to your interest list and I鈥檓 speaking this one. I don鈥檛 need to grab it. But the risk is 10 minutes before the beginning a recessionary forfeit your seat. The reason is that 10 minutes before and was not in the Reserve at which a reserved seat will be no seats will be freed up you will be allowed out of those will go to the walk up lines.
Okay. So as I鈥檓 doing this, I鈥檓 just making sure that I get in to each of these so there鈥檚 a few key ones because I don鈥檛 have enough time on my schedule. This one is in the Venetian at 12:15. So what is blocking me hear? I鈥檓 in the MGM for responsible disclosure that seat and book one in Adrian鈥檚 and will try to grab the other one there.
So this is a repeat session in action. There鈥檚 two for SEC 212. I had them both flagged as interested because this one conflicted with what I wanted to go see on Monday. So now I can go see it on Wednesday in the Mirage another key thing about these - r r e Pete Sessions the repeats are normally at different times in different building.
So if you鈥檙e just going to stick to one building don鈥檛 recommend it, but if you do then you鈥檙e going to be able to actually booked the multiple times writes you find which time is the most effective for your schedule and grab it. And I think that鈥檚 a fantastic thing that鈥檚 going on this year with with AWS notices in the re I think yes.
It is already booked. Add to wait-list we鈥檙e 2 minutes and it is already booked. Can I add myself to the waitlist? So I may be assigned to reserve see if one comes available somebody if somebody removes it for the schedule I鈥檒l get in there but now I can cook on a section title and find any repeats.
There鈥檚 no repeats listed yet. There will be repeats or just not populating where to check that a second 13 are by the way books has its own theme which I thought was amazing. I really want to see this one. OK I have a conflict. So I definitely the moving event-driven I was he Tim鈥檚 talk over that I鈥檒l catch that.
So here鈥檚 a great example of a conflict and I don鈥檛 want to move it in the one is not being repeated. So actually the both not being repeated. This is a great time to remind you all the stuff goes up on YouTube a week or two after me and Matt.
So being in the session you get the energy you get the chance to ask the speaker questions afterwards normally have more out into the speaker chat area. And you get to talk to attendees and that鈥檚 much like it鈥檚 a good experience right is why you鈥檙e going to reinvent but, wait a second pause.
So this is one of the challenges I find with the schedules that will not show you what conflicting so I鈥檓 trying to get in Becky session. I don鈥檛 have enough time will tell me what conflicting so I can fix it. And there is a way through calendar will do that second.
I need to get it on Midnight Madness. I need to get it on this time. So it鈥檚 really that energy has asked me. Hopefully you鈥檙e not paying attention right now. It sounds horrible for a stranger to say guy in while I鈥檓 talking to you. This is the fastest worked in years, which is amazing.
I鈥檓 Gladiator vs. Beef this up and come on movie night roll the dice movie night. Spinny Low T signs always not not super reassuring but I鈥檓 in for Midnight Madness. I think Midnight Madness caps are like 3,500 people so you should be able to get in this early. So I really am an introvert the fact that I鈥檓 doing streaming.
I thought movie night might be nice way to recharge with some folks and I love movies from the 80s because it was a crazy crazy time and it鈥檚 amazing that aside. I鈥檓 hoping these refresh and lock me in so they reserved me and they reserved me in I think I鈥檒l be okay and I鈥檓 so if we go back to the event catalog You鈥檒l see you got the ability to search through this stuff again, right? So if you want to take session level you can filter buy session level remember at the end of the session levels basically 200 really an intro, even though it鈥檚 listed in the intermediate is basically an introduction to the topic at hand.
I鈥檓 giving to 200 taxes here, right? So the 200 Top Gun security is very much like security works the overview of it in the cloud. And yes you if you saw me ranting on Twitter out with Eric last night, I never give Sylvie stuff so you can rest assured even though it鈥檚 a sponsored session.
It will be a purely educational. The other says session at 2:04 to customer storing and I make sure those aren鈥檛 able to either but you know, depending on if you like to hear case studies are not have a 200-level very intermediate are very introductory very much. Like hey, this is this is the ins-and-outs of whatever toppings that had 300 to sort of the grab-bag 300 you鈥檙e going to get is that they should deliver technical content.
You should be afraid of showing command. You should be showing architectural diagrams at things like that with real examples and but also with the overview as well. So you helped Bridge people into the topic for 400. These are the ones that I actually prefer if you sound horrible, I don鈥檛 like watching these in person because I really like watching them on YouTube and the reason being I consume an insane amount of the 400 levels at every year as they get pushed up on YouTube in the reason why I say I don鈥檛 like watching them in person is because he鈥檚 a really deep dive technical sessions.
Awesome. That鈥檚 great if it鈥檚 actually a talk and not a workshop and we鈥檒l talk about that in a second. If it鈥檚 a talk the reason why I like watching a news cuz I can pause it and then start researching. So if somebody says Transit Gateway Works under the covers and I can dive into the Nitro Lair look at previous talks and really I end up writing a huge amount of notes on those talks and I find that just for me for workflow.
It鈥檚 nice when I鈥檓 I鈥檓 kind of sitting here and I can work through that the Whiteboard if you ever wondered what the shine Sing is in the background. It鈥檚 actually on the light. I have here shining off the big glass whiteboard. I have behind highly recommend getting a glass whiteboard.
They鈥檝e dropped in price significantly since I bought that one even though that one is actually a dining room table from Ikea sadly, they don鈥檛 sell it anymore. Cuz that was the cheapest way, but about another one for the family office upstairs normal whiteboard. They were pretty inexpensive and fantastic glass whiteboards.
Definitely the way to go and side ramp the on this page right off of that. We have a couple different types of sessions. We鈥檝e a builder session. We鈥檝e a workshop. You also see Chuck talks and a couple other session types. So a builder session is normally just it鈥檚 it鈥檚 right.
It鈥檚 just a talk. I put a workshop should be two hours. So this works Ops 2 + 2 hours and 15 minutes with the workshops there. Literally you鈥檙e going to be doing some stuff right to a 400 level Workshop is awesome if your Skills are up to that level 400 level workshops are amazing.
If you can get in basically you bring a laptop you sit down and you do a deep. So, I鈥檓 right to a lot of great machine learning ones because we鈥檙e looking at the machine learning level, but if you did sec. I just got prompted by one of my apps that I just installed.
Hold onto seconds is handy little app. I鈥檝e got that lets me mute specific why we鈥檙e actually able to do the Twitter thing and not hear the echo. So if we typed in for security at 400 level we should see a filter so, you know, it鈥檚 the catalog slowing down of it not by too much though.
It鈥檚 a won鈥檛 let me filter there. But what you can do is go on the side and filter based on security somewhere in the street. Not industry Mark. What are you doing? There we go topics. Security compliance and identity love how all of them in there. So here鈥檚 all the 400 levels and so GPS is generalized Global partner Summit.
You probably want to avoid those let your partner because they鈥檙e very specific to our partners. Like hey, this is our doing things here. But this is an amazing workshop and SDK for multi master key encryption. If you ever struggle trying to implement this design pattern with encryption. This is the best way to learn it.
Right cuz you鈥檙e literally going to sit down for 2 hours and 15 minutes with one of the senior Managers from cryptography won the senior engineer Summa cryptography team and they鈥檙e going to help you fix stuff. They鈥檙e going to help you work through Sample Challenge and say this is how you set up encryption.
I buy the SDK Jaso Workshop is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Then that sounds like a huge commitment. It鈥檚 a big time commitment. It is worth it 100% worth it. Now on my guide. I did not book and I know a lot of Heroes avoided recommending workshops not because we don鈥檛 support them.
We 100% support them because they have limited space. So we didn鈥檛 want to put the guys out that are trying to get to the broad audience of saying Hey try to get into this Workshop where they鈥檙e only allowing 50 people in or 75 people in it just wasn鈥檛 it wasn鈥檛 conducive to that.
But that鈥檚 why I wanted to bring up in the Stream, right? So building secure apis in the cloud is an amazing Workshop talks about the usage plans on Gateway x-ray visit amazing amazing session, right? If you鈥檙e interested in building secure apis, that鈥檚 the way to go and you can go across this for all of them other things.
We want to cover really quick as you guys are booking the stuff out. So, you know, what鈥檚 the session type activities are literally just like the Midnight Madness to talk of that kind of stuff. I am 20 minute presentations is a bunch of them this year, which is cool.
And there鈥檚 a bunch that you don鈥檛 have to actually lock into I鈥檓 so some of these are all a demo presento sponsors presentations. There鈥檚 a bunch of the developer Lounge as well that you do not need to book seats for will be covering the developer Lounge in another stream.
I鈥檓 a huge support of the developer Lounge. I spoke there and the summit summit series over the spring in the summer and the Builder sessions we talked about Chalk talks are smaller audience hour-long basically discussions, right? So it鈥檚 an expert or two. They鈥檒l see the discussion and then we鈥檒l just talk to you about whatever.
Very cool Deb chats we talked about those you don鈥檛 need to book a seat at can you book a seat now? You can鈥檛 even book a seat if you wanted to but like this one鈥檚 a great one. This is yet. I just want to make sure it鈥檚 not even listening through the speaker is I know who the speaker is and they are phenomenal.
It鈥檚 not been scheduled because you don鈥檛 need to lock it in yet. But when we get closer reinvent will cover those hackathons in jams. If you can get in go for it some of these were part of the Registration process eh eh to pay during registration to get a seat than the normal sessions.
Then Spotlight labs are literally Hands-On lab stuff to talk to gets its own category. For some reason. I don鈥檛 know why but if you like wings or cauliflower, that鈥檚 that鈥檚 the way to go and then the workshops it again. You can filter by industry the industry. I find somewhat useful but the problem with industry filtering is that there鈥檚 a ton of stuff that you can learn from other Industries that鈥檚 applicable to yours.
So if you鈥檙e looking for literally somebody laying out like I have problem XYZ and this is how I solve it filter by industry. Other than that, I think topics way better because topic is going to give you a much more accurate are not accurate, but it鈥檚 going to give you a better person the whole goal.
I find a reinvent is to learn from different perspectives is going to be an insane amount of people well over $50,000 coming to this thing. That鈥檚 a great opportunity to learn from people and maybe even You鈥檙e in advertising and marketing. Maybe somebody solved the problem you鈥檙e dealing with any educational Market new fuel filter by vertical like by industry.
You might not see it. Now. Being sad if you鈥檙e hunting for something at scale that you鈥檙e not sure about. This is a great way to filter. So one of the things that鈥檚 a really interesting ones. When you feel to break games and Tech you鈥檙e going to start to see some stuff at scale that you probably don鈥檛 have to deal with in your area.
Right? So the Rope hero ones, they鈥檙e always great but like this one caught my eye migrating live Pokemon database to Aurora postgres because there鈥檚 three hundred million players pushing on that D be and they migrated it. Why was life You may be in finance and dealing with the same kind of scale so you can find utility in those filters.
I鈥檓 so don鈥檛 be afraid of them, but they鈥檙e not necessarily the best way out to find you might be better off typing something like a product name into the search box and then you鈥檒l see everything that鈥檚 mentioned that particular product in the title or in the abstract, but that鈥檚 it.
That鈥檚 how you know, it鈥檚 it鈥檚 pretty straightforward. I also love talks like this how Prime video process is 8% of all us internet traffic on AWS. Nanoscale most of us have to deal with very very cool. Also one of the reasons why Netflix has his entire category to itself.
That鈥檚 it did not see any issues. Nobody ping me on Twitter screaming that this did not work, which was great. The first this year takes your feedback extremely seriously, and I tell you that I was out to the point where they actually reach out to the heroes and said if you鈥檙e doing anything like this, let us know we have a support in place of things are going wrong that you can talk to people and get the answer in the accurate information out.
I love that. That鈥檚 that鈥檚 a fantastic way to engage the community great news didn鈥檛 need it. Cuz this work pretty much Flawless Lee little extra leg. But you know, if it goes from half a second to 1 second, no big deal. I got the sessions that I was able to get that I wanted to now you would have booked a lot more sessions that I did.
I鈥檓 giving a couple sessions that I鈥檝e got a ton of commitment outside of attending talks. I鈥檓 so I only try to get into a few sessions and that鈥檚 you know, Interview this morning for a with a journalist talking about you know, what? What鈥檚 your people know about Reinventing? I鈥檒l give you guys the same thing.
I told them was don鈥檛 try to do everything pick a couple sessions every day that are really interesting to you and attend them but then make sure to engage with people talk to people around you maybe take a certification exam go to some of the evening events take some opportunity to try what you鈥檙e learning.
I鈥檓 right life US Open that laptop and take advantage of the free tier and try to build something new. That鈥檚 always cool. Also remember new service launches are not in the catalog. They will get out of the catalog after the keynote. So we鈥檙e going to go through this again post keynote on either if they ain鈥檛 out something so there鈥檚 four possible slots for five possible slots with an L things.
They鈥檝e done announcements previously at midnight madness it鈥檚 rare, but normally they launched one thing they do Monday Night Live will have some announcements Tuesday night is the global partner. Tuesday Mornings of global partner summer came out. They tend not to announce generally available stuff there they announce feature specifically for partners, but there鈥檚 a potential and then of course we鈥檝e and he鈥檚 on on Wednesday and Vernors on Thursday to give me a 10 new stuff announce, which means we鈥檒l get a lot of repeats Friday morning.
Friday morning is a great way to clean up a bunch of sessions that you missed her when able to get into or unable to get into earlier in the week. So don鈥檛 fly out Thursday night. I definitely check out the replay party Thursday night then Friday morning when you wake up and are recovered.
It鈥檚 a great opportunity to get in three or four more talks. Cuz a lot of people are or aren鈥檛 around anymore and those repeat are happening. So this is phase one. Is it just the opening? Hopefully you got the sessions you want and I very much hope you did.
I鈥檓 I hope this helped you out a little bit understanding what the process was with the different session types of War trailer made some mistakes here are there I鈥檓 glad that you guys stuck with me. Hopefully forgive me a little bit little crazy on the track again. You don鈥檛 take Christopher鈥檚 comment on LinkedIn very seriously.
Turn off radio s right away cuz there鈥檚 going to be some problems then inevitably you forget to configure things and you have to do it on the Fly while you know, a bunch of people watching life, but I appreciate your patience. I appreciate you sticking along. I appreciate you guys is an audience to the community.
If you want to hear different things on the stream, I would have you streaming to three times a week leading up to reinvent. I have one last thing. We鈥檙e 47 days out for me event, which means if you want to do the charity run on the Tuesday morning as friend a Nick from Australia remind me it鈥檚 cold.
I鈥檇 like it鈥檚 like five degrees is perfect. And he said that鈥檚 cold apparently for a lot of you. So 5 degrees Celsius is cold for I thought it was perfect. The charity is a 4K or an eighth. If you鈥檝e never run before I will drop a great link to a Runner鈥檚 World article in and you can tell from me.
I am not a big Runner. I can鈥檛 even think of the world of the word the world the word so I鈥檓 dropping this right now in the LinkedIn doing the charity run. So here鈥檚 a couch to 5K 6 week beginner plan. It literally gets you off the couch and doing a 5k we鈥檙e running 4K at reinvent on the Tuesday morning.
It鈥檚 45 days schedule. So day 47 right now get started get started now and you鈥檒l be comfortably able to run that charity event. If you not going to run a charity event still think about donating directly because it鈥檚 a fantastic cause I believe is going to girls who code in the number of other Charities.
So I hope you guys are set up for fantastic day. I let me know what time you want to hear next and we鈥檒l see you on the next dream. We are going to get going and just a second here but a minute and a half before we go live for reinvent open seating.
There we go. That鈥檚 how my day鈥檚 been going like always we had a Canadian Thanksgiving fantastic time just disconnected.
